Takku

Where your data goes

Takku runs on your Mac. This page lists everything it keeps, everything it sends, and to whom.

Takku has no account, no analytics and no server of its own, except Takku Credit if you choose it. It’s open source, so anyone can check all of this in the code.

What stays on your Mac

The audio
Takku keeps it in its folder, about 20 MB per hour of meeting, and deletes it after 7 days. You can keep it from 1 to 90 days, or forever, in Settings, Recordings. Takku reads a file you import, keeps its own copy and never touches yours.
The transcription and voices
Parakeet or Whisper turn speech into text on your Mac, and Takku tells the voices apart on your Mac too. If you turn on Recognise voices (off by default), the voice profiles of speakers you name stay on your Mac and can be forgotten anytime in Settings, Transcription.
Notes and transcripts
In your notes folder, as plain Markdown files. Your templates and vocabulary are Markdown files too, in ~/.takku.
Screenshots
Only the ones you take with ⌃⌥⌘S, in your notes folder, in Meetings/Screenshots. Takku never deletes them and never sends them anywhere.
The summary log
A copy of every request sent to the summary provider and of every reply, in ~/.takku/summary-log, to help you improve your templates. Takku never reads it or sends it anywhere, not even in a problem report. It keeps up to 5 MB, oldest first out; turn it off or delete it in Settings, Recordings.
API keys
In the macOS Keychain.
Your calendar
Takku reads it through macOS, if you turn it on.

What leaves your Mac

To the summary provider
The transcript, your notes, the template, the terms of your vocabulary and, with the calendar on, the names of who was invited. Never the audio, nor your screenshots. With Apple Intelligence or a model on your Mac (llama.cpp, Ollama or LM Studio), nothing leaves at all. With a coding agent you signed in to (Codex, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenCode or Pi), they go to its provider under your plan’s terms, and Takku keeps nothing in the agent: OpenCode’s session is deleted after each summary. With Takku Credit, see below.
From Hugging Face
The transcription model and a small model that tells voices apart: Takku downloads them once and sends nothing about you or your meetings.
To your hook
Only if you set one up: the note and the transcript go wherever your script sends them, such as Notion. Takku doesn’t check where. See Hooks.
To your AI assistant
Only if you add Takku to one, such as Claude: the notes and transcripts it asks for, which it sends to its model. Never the audio. See Your meetings in an AI assistant.
To GitHub
Once a day Takku reads the list of versions published with the latest release on GitHub. The request carries nothing about you. An update is installed only when you choose it, and only if it carries Takku’s signature. Turn the daily check off in Settings, About, Check for updates.

With Takku Credit

Takku Credit is optional: only if you use it.

Your meetings
The transcript and your notes go to api.takku.app, which passes them to TensorX and the summary back to you. Neither keeps them: TensorX processes them in memory on servers in the EU, with AWS in Ireland and Scaleway in France.
What Takku Credit keeps
Your email address, the balance, and for each summary how many tokens it used and what it cost. Not the key itself, only a fingerprint of it, and never the text of a meeting.
Who else is involved
Cloudflare runs api.takku.app. Stripe takes the payment and sends the receipt. Resend sends the email with your key.

Choosing a provider

Takku doesn’t check where a provider processes your data. If you or your company have rules, use Apple Intelligence or a model on your Mac, or a provider whose terms fit them, for example Regolo.ai in Italy or Mistral in France. Read the terms before using it for real meetings.

The setup has profiles to start from. Takku Credit uses a model hosted in the EU and keeps nothing of your meetings.

You may need the others’ consent to record a meeting. Tell them you’re recording, and follow the rules that apply to you.
